2019 marks the 20-year birthday of the Samsung SCH-3500, a sleek Sprint cellphone notable for its petite form factor and amazing (for 1999) voice-dialing feature. The SCH-3500 was also MrMobile's first ... mobile. So when a bunch of my most excellent tech-DE-film brethren told me they were getting ready to run videos about their first cellphones, I eBayed me a '3500 and jumped on that rocket faster than that Pizza Hut delivery hit the ISS in 2001. That joke go over your head? The video makes it clear, so jump on in to the latest Retro Review and take a trip back in time - in MrMobile's First Cellphone Retro Review!

My first mobile phone experience was in 2001, I think, with some raggedy Audiovox cell phones my parents bought as part of a plan. The reception was horrendous and the call quality was questionable at best, but I remember how thrilled I was to borrow it for homecoming night! My first personally owned phone was a Nokia 3520, and it was amazing to me. With that color screen, no antenna on the outside, and good sound, it was perfect for me. I find myself missing that a lot nowadays. Wish that 3310 was available for Verizon.

@3:50 so thats what its called, kinda funny when you realize that the apple earpods & some of Xiaomi's Piston IEMs suffers from the same fate also, sometimes as short as 2 years,in which its rubber is practically slowly melting on you

I remember When this phone first released, it was like an alien space ship that just landed on your front lawn. It was that much more advanced and cool looking than any other phone at that time!

My first phone was that Nokia you show at the beginning of this video, but my favorite was a Samsung flip phone with Palm Pilot software in the lid, and a tiny stylus.

This was my dad's first phone. It was out of stock at our local Bell store, and we drove an hour to get it, because it had to be THIS phone! He loved the style. And it worked great, until a one ton metal block fell on it.

Oh man my first mobile phone was an Ericsson (before the failed Sony Ericsson merger) in 1996. We had to pay charges for receiving a voice message if someone left you one, had to remove the battery and put it on a separate battery charging dock

I had an LG. This one was pretty good for its time. It had expandable storage. It was an MP3 player(after hacking it). It also had two screens. It had live wallpaper before Android and iOS. It had a selfie camera and screen to see yourself. And I purchased and installed an expandable battery. It ended being very bulky, but I didn’t have to charge it for 2 days of heavy use. 😥 3-4 days with regular.

Haha my first cell phone was a used Uniden bag phone. You had to plug it in to your car to use it or use a crazy heavy battery that didn't last all that long. Oh and it was analog tech. My plan had zero daytime minutes this were $.20 each but unlimited after 9pm and all weekend from Friday to 6am Monday morning. Texting, forget about that, not even possible yet.
