Ya -ur right -they all have OpenGL anyway nowadays, and yes I work with CAD, that's why I prefer professional Graphics like Quadro -its just more stable -just don't understand why they don't offer the P3200 as an option on this laptop.

Wouldnt buy this... No water drainage, no hot swap battery, keyboard integrated into the top case like on the X1 (need to disassemble the whole machine to replace the keyboard). That is not a Thinkpad, thats a macbook with a plastic shell. Just compare these with the W Series Laptops from back then, everything was user serviceable and rock solid. Lenovo keeps copying the mistakes other manufacturers make.

Architects engineers and interior designers are the sector the laptop market long hasn't address, and this ThinkPad P1 is seem the closest answer for us - almost! Hey Lenovo we are convinced by the spec which finally matched our need to do CAD & 3D modeling BUT don't you remember we input dimension A WHOLE LOT? without a numpad just makes us feel like handicap during the workflow! (It's ture) I can't stop wondering for weeks before sleep why you guys don't include a numpad in this P1 with architects and engineers as its targeted customers in mind but included in the lower end P52s which would be bought by personnel like managers of architects and engineers, and these managers are the breed only open and view CAD files but never actually do the CAD work. Now I am done with all rants expressed, it's time to accept the fact that once I bought this P1 and place it on my lap with my legs crossed like how you would sit in coffee shop, I would have to use blue tack to stick a ugly portable numpad along the blank space right side of the keyboard which probably would block the fingerprint scanner... ohh my

256 SSD woefully small amount of space now that I have it -- I use I do a fair amount of video and graphics editing. Chat support said that "the P1 has 2x M.2 slots you would be able to add another hard drive to the device" which I'll likely upgrade myself, but it's almost $400 for the the ThinkPad 1TB PCIe NVME TLC OPAL M.2 SSD. That's a lot! Not a fan of this mousepad at all, though I may switch the ctrl and fn keys. And I purchased with Office 365 preinstalled and Lenovo was unable to activate the software for over a week, which got in the way of a presentation...grrrrrr! While I agree with Dave about the high quality of the build on this machine and that it's super fast/powerful (went with 32gbram) for my use, the priors I mentioned really dimmed my enthusiasm.

Lenovo dont seem to comply with requests to offer an option to load extra screen reading software for the visually impaired from the factory a requirement in enterprise adaption required by law ? The P1 only takes 32GB ECC. 64 GB option is non ECC. But the 6-core XEON doesn't warrant more than 32 GB of memory, 64 is only needed on a Dual Xeon config IMO. I have a P470 for almost a year now and use it 10 hours a day at work in an open office and can say that: - The soft touch material is awful, it's a huge fingerprint magnet, it damages easily, just by rubbing the laptop on your belt or shirt buttons or even when placing it on cables and pens on your desk - The keyboard is decent. I'd almost say good, but I've seen better and one of my colleague that has the same model as mine had issues with a broken key after a few weeks of use. The FN key placement still bugs me after all this time, I absolutely hate it and if you have a PC at home you will never get used to it. Not to mention you will hardly use (I only use it for mute and volume change) so I don't understand why they placed it there - Can't comment on the display, the P470 has a 1080 screen which is pretty rubbish. Has a heavy blue cast, it's not bright enough and contrast ration not that great. I hope the 4k display on the P1 is years ahead - I have never even used the display at a 180 angle. I honestly have absolutely no idea why they implemented this. It's impossible to use, please stop marketing this useless gimmick. - The speakers are indeed good, very loud and clear. They are mounted on rubber shock mount for some reason. The only downside is that they are placed on the bottom of the laptop so might have issues if you have the laptop placed on fabric - The trackpad is okay, nothing to write home about, a bit small and hard to calibrate it to your taste. It also is a grease magnet and the button placement reminds me of 1990s laptops. - I will have to agree that the build quality is phenomenal. It's a solid and slick machine. Nothing rattles, nothing bends, nothing warps. It's very very well built, it can take a beating and will last a long time. - Oh and yes they are pretty expensive if you only compare the specs. I mean an i5 with iGPU 8 GB ram and 512 m2 storage goes ri9ght now for $1200 where I live. I paid half that price for an i7 with GTX 950M 2GB 2 years ago. Yes it's an Acer and the overall quality is pretty shabby, but you can get some speedy laptops for the premium business price you are paying to Lenovo.
