Bandersnatch is the latest Black Mirror Episode, and in this review, Bandersnatch is explained via philosophy of free will and choices. The Bandersnatch endings have all been explained many times, but there's a lot we can learn from this Black Mirror Netflix episode when it comes to our mental health.

Everything is appearing in the totality of conciousness, from our choices, to even the concept of free will, the thought just appears in conciousness, and that's all it is... a thought. Just gotta be mindful of the fact that things are just appearing in conciousness, and realize that the things we are feeling/thinking, dont actually encompass what conciousness is and you're simply experiencing these with no free will of your own . Realizing that, the moment it happens, can set the mind at ease, meditation is key. "The illusion of free will, is itself and illusion" - Sam Harris

I find this concept interesting in a different way, I became very chronically ill in my early teens and no one was able to diagnose me until I was 29 (last year). I had to learn a lot of self control in what I chose to do physically because I would be bedridden for weeks if I did too much, and to this day I still don't 'do' very much and practice a lot of self-limitation to avoid major crashes.

I liked all the references to Lewis Carroll's "Alice" and "Through the Looking Glass." In Alice, she sees the white rabbit and follows him (Stefan and his rabbit toy). Alice follows him down the rabbit hole (Colin refers to Stefan being in the hole) Alice is faced with many doors down a long hallway and finds a key to open one of the doors (the book Stefan reads "Look Door, Get Key." This book tells you how to create a choose-your-own-adventure game). She is presented with options along the way such as drinking a potion to make her large, small, eating biscuits that causes reaction A or B, eating different sides of the mushroom causing A or B. She meets the Caterpillar who is smoking a hookah and gives advice/infornation to Alice for her journey (Colin (caterpillar?) offers Stefan the blunt in his apartment then proceeds to give him info regarding our free will and decisions.) Colin also reminds me of the Cheshire Cat. In this apartment scene, Colin sits back and has the grin on his face... kinda like the Chesire Cat? He then tells Alice how to find the March Hare... Colin tells Stefan various things about PAC and many of these things, like the government and drugs, allude to choices Stefan can make down the storyline, many of which end revolve around the rabbit. I dunno if this is too farfetched but that's what I saw. I could go on and on with a billion other similarities that I saw but I feel like I am writing a critical analysis report for English on here. Those are just some things I noticed.

I looked up this episode and didn’t expect to see you here. My only critique of the movie is the fact that there are so many endings that could have been added. For example, one I would like to have is one that occurs if you let the timer run for every choice. It could end in Stefan being ok, as he no longer has the issue of people controlling him, which in some endings is what drives him to murder.

Wait... I lost you at 9:55 because I answered "yes" to all of those questions, with the only hesitation on choosing to be depressed (not sure I have enough personal experience to say)? I actively choose negative thoughts every day. Like it's not always (or even mostly) healthy, but at least sometimes it's like...the last scene in Black Mirror's "Nosedive" episode, where the negativity is a gleeful bonding thing and/or a cathartic release. It's not healthy to dwell on negativity and I'm still working on that, especially with perseverating on my anxiety, but putting myself in a reality where I never choose those things at all is like...would my ability to percieve positivity exist without negativity? Is negativity inherently "bad" / aversive? Your explanation of the core principle of Buddhism being that our reaction to the world is all based in attraction and aversion was a real lightbulb for me. I think negativity, anxiety, anger, etc. can all be attractive. Which is screwy honestly but like....??? *brain exploding noises*

This made me think about the idea of “choice architecture” and how our choices and actions are greatly influenced by how possibilities/options are presented to us. There’s a really interesting TEDTalk about it. Something hopeful mentioned is that although we are usually going to be pulled in certain directions because of choice architecture, we still have some control by choosing our environments and having the ability to leave (even if it seems hard to do)

Hey Chris, I'm a few days into your channel. I subscribed thanks to your series on the "Abusive (Ex) Boyfriend" issue. Since then, it's just been binging everything I see coming up in the recommendations and it's been great! I've learned a lot about things I never really think about and it's actually kind of forced me to reflect on myself more than I typically like to. I'm the type who is painfully aware of my problems and that I need to fix them, and can evaluate my situation...but I also try to bury those things and avoid the topic or doing the work. So you're taking away my blissful ignorance, haha. Anyway, I was watching this video an animator did called My Mentally Abusive Father by PantslessPajamas. And as someone who deeply, deeply understands what she's talking about so bravely in this video, I would really appreciate seeing you talk about some of the issues in the video. You've openly said that you dealt/deal with depression and anxiety, and with an alcoholic parent, I have personally associated them with abuse. Namely emotional and mental. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mxmGVo1Bp-Y I'm mostly curious how you would feel about responding to the video, expressing some things about abuse and how they factor into peoples' mental health, and what we can do to help ourselves or others in this position whether they're still dealing with the abuse, or if it's still affecting them even after they've escaped the situation...at least physically. Thank you if you read this comment! Whether or not you have the time for it, I'm glad you still do what you do. I'm really looking forward to exploring more of your channel. Specifically, the mindfulness videos that I've put on my to-watch list. I know people tell you how much good you're doing for the world, but I wanna echo that. You're so awesome.

First.. I'm sooo pissed right now that I can't play Bandersnatch on my laptop :( lol Second.. I agree but also disagree with some things you say. I've been a smoker myself (I quit like 3 weeks ago) and i disagree that this is not a choice someone makes. It was my choice to smoke my first cigarette. It was my choice to smoke the second one and so on. And it was also my choice to not quit smoking earlier. Of course smoking is an addiction and it's effecting the brain but also it's been said that to effectively quit smoking you have to want it. So... that does kinda make it a choice in my opinion. You know what I mean? xD Saying that it's not a choice and people are just being victims of their brain (or whatever) seems to me like people are just not owning up to their descisions and lacking responsibility (sorry, still love u though xD) And I'm not talking about addiction in general. Just about smoking 'cause that's the only addiction I can relate to. I've never had a problem with drugs or alcohol so I'm not gonna talk abut these things. And the same actually goes for emotions. Yes, we may not decide at first if we feel angry or sad about something in the very first moment. But the second you realize that you are actually feeling a special way that is the moment where descisions (I hate to write this word, I always have to look it up lol) are coming into play. The second I realize I am angry about.. I don't know.. let's say a hate comment, I can choose if I want to be angry about this and continue beeing pissed or if I just let it go. That's the magic about not giving any fucks about what other people think of you. Choosing to not be angry, sad or whatever. That's why my psychology teacher always said "The only person responsibe for the way you feel is yourself and nobody else." Edit: The same actually goes for food as well because every time I'm walking into the grocery store I am deciding about what I buy or don't buy. This is just discipline. And I gotta be honest. I don' have any when it comes to pizza lmao But again... those are just my two cents so feel free to disagree.

Funny ya mentioned the free will thing, because I knew some friends who got depressed over this fact. Overtime, however, they just accepted it. How? By telling themselves, "It doesn't matter now. We'll be dead soon. This is just a paradox you're going through. It's best to accept it, then be depressed about it." In short, they said this type of thinking leaves paranoia and cause of death anxiety, so it's best to calm yourself and let your mind forget about it, because life is short.

The subject of free will is interesting. If you dive deep enough you realize that even the most insignificant decision can be traced back to some sort of outside influence. Maybe you decided to try out a completely new dish to make/order? Something that has possibly nothing in it that you've ever tried before and you have no idea if you're gonna like it. Why did you choose to try it? Is it simply out of curiosity? Is it because someone you know likes it? Did you see someone of influence eat it? Do you subconsciously want to appear more adventurous? There's A TON of possibilities. VERY rarely is there anything 100% original in this world. Every single thing we do or create is based on some prior knowledge or idea. We just expand upon those ideas to make something new out of it. This opens up to other topics such as "what really is originality?", "At what point do we define something as original?", "What was the thing that set the very beginning of this cycle?", "Was it millions of years ago when we first developed the ability of higher thinking?", " Did it all start with basic survival instincts and progressively get increasingly more complicated as time went on?". I could go on forever about philosophy. It's truly one of the most fascinating subjects I've ever encountered.
