one of the very last things she did before driving off was crank something on the Rolo keychain. She either powered it off or cranked the volume down. Now if she powered it off, Rolo actually wouldn’t be suffering eternally, and her testimony to him before cranking the electrocution chair was just to add to his despair before the destruction of his cookie.

NETFLIX IS OUR NEW TESTAMENT http://medium.com/@JacquesCoulardeau/netflix-is-our-new-testament-56598efa1b9b NETFLIX – BLACK MIRROR – 4th SEASON - 2017 This series is in a way outrageously disturbing. It is not science-fiction as usual, but it is science-fiction from a systematically vengeful and sadistic point of view. The six episodes have no alternative meaning and that’s why they are poignant in a way because even though we know it is going to be sadistic and vengeful, we do not know how it is going to develop and the punch line is always flabbergasting. It doesn't make sense that the person in the keychain still suffers. If you were to upload a gaming video you wouldn't simulate the whole game on the person's PC right? You would just record the screen and sound. This means that it's just the image of the person suffering.

18:18 what? She wasn't doing that for pleasure. It was for revenge. Her smiling at the keychain was just her smile of success, bringing revenge to the man that put her father into suffering.

+X 2 If you want a less extreme example; look at everyday traffic in cities. Should drivers be vindictive for every little thing that happens in traffic? Are they quite often vindictive? If you've driven or watched videos of traffic accidents, I'm sure you already know the answers to that. If not, then it would be educational and useful to learn about it. It's two simple questions but it comes back to the main point; taking "revenge" for the sake of pleasure _(or impulse)_ is harmful. Of course, sometimes revenge is a "bonus" of taking care of a potential threat, but lingering on the good, angry or stressful feelings is damaging the brain. The brain sometimes wants more, even negative emotions like anger. It's counter intuitive, but that's the subconscious. And speaking for myself: When I stopped caring about every little thing people had done to me, I could think a lot more clearly.

Vor 2 Stunden
X 2
X 2

+Bidmartinlo Not necessarily, you can only speak for your self in such scenarios. You can't assume others lack the same self control. You are using extreme examples and painting it as if it is an absolute truth. Those kind of movements were carried out at the collective level but were orchestrated by the self-serving hands of a few. How you think and behave in a group is sometimes different in how you think and behave individually, "bystander effect/mob mentality/group think."

Vor 17 Stunden
X 2

+WixkedLovy "[She is no different than the people who torture out of pure pleasure or entertainment]." Wrong, there is a difference, otherwise, she would do it to just about anyone or everyone. She is not on equal footing with Haynes here when it comes to evil deeds, if that is what you are implying. And enlighten us on how you would go about getting justice for her father, when all avenues seem to have been exhausted and the justice system seemingly had failed them - assuming her dad was guilty beyond all reasonable doubts, he was already punished for his crime and then tortured beyond his death. I don't think anyone was looking for justice at that point besides her and her mom. Are you going to preach and lecture about forgiveness, friendship, and holier than thou for a man who was sadistic? You can't hide behind the veil of "subjectivity" and pretend that all "opinions" are equal, that argument is a cop out and kind of pandering. What you end up with is you then allow a small wiggle room and justification for heinous acts and behaviours to continue. Vengeance is the only thing that keeps low-lives, crappy, and evil people in line, not contemporary "justice" in the legal definition we understand it to be.

Vor 17 Stunden
WixkedLovy

kiiara xo Bidmartinlo explains it perfectly, if you don’t agree with it that’s fine.

Vor 4 Tage
Bidmartinlo

Revenge is for pleasure, which is ultimately *harmful to the psyche.* Because once you're feeling pleasure/ joy/ something from destroying or torturing an enemy, you'll automatically seek out more. Always more. Then who suffers? The innocent, the ones who commit minor "crimes" against you and victims of poor systems. What does it mean? The Third Reich. The War on terror. The Mongolian empire. Simply put, *revenge makes people insane.* This is why empathy is so important. And why the heroine of the story isn't much better than the villain.

I love this analysis of Black Museum, you have a very good grasp on the Black Mirror Universe and, I can't wait to see the rest of the episodes analysed in your style! But, this is just my own view on the Nish's morality, argument. Of course there is the question, of whether Nish's actions are truly just, but, look at it from her perspective. This guy tortured her own father for, however many years, turning what was the last part of him, that could have been given to her and her mother, into a vegetable. It's way more personal for her, than any of the other antagonists in Black Mirror. As someone who lost my own father figure, due to the ignorance of people who were meant to be helping him, I can absolutely see where Nish is coming from in regards to Haynes. Bitterness and anger left to fester, can make kind people do cruel things, to those who they feel have wronged them.

Vor 9 Tage
TheUltimateKIC
TheUltimateKIC

I was going to say something like that, as well. Also, adding the fact that he's responsible for the torture and trauma of many others. He would only be getting a taste of what the father went through even after a few years, at least. Not to mention the other victims. He could be in there for years and it still wouldn't be enough. He showed no remorse. I even sympathized with Daly from that Star Trek episode, at the end of the episode. Heck, he's stuck in complete darkness with no way out for, potentially, eternity. At least, Haynes has a way out.
