In the Black Museum episode they had teddy bears that had the consciousness of terminally I'll parents uploaded for their children. It seems as though all of these episodes exist in the same universe so I'm thinking that these teddy bears might have been to upload the dying persons consciousness into It. We are just assuming it was for a kid, but the dying person could be an older man. Either that or it could have been for a kid and one of those bears had the consciousness of a significant person to that kid already uploaded. I don't know... I'm just spit balling while on the toilet.

My theory now is (I haven’t watched the bandersnatch video) but there is a post of a game called Metalhead so I have a feeling its all a game hence why it’s in black and white because the time it came out in didn’t have the technology to create a full colour game. Also, I think it explains why despite there being so many human artefacts (cars, houses) there are no humans to be seen apart from the original 3. I think it’s a game where the goal is to get the teddy for possibly a child but you have to survive the dogs. Alternatively, you could be playing as the dogs hence why the name of the game revolves around them

No one is calling out what the Dogs actually are. Humans. Not pilots, but humans. Item. Cookies. White Christmas AI. Reccuring and cruelly treated intelligent beings stuck in arteficial worlds. Item. They can escape into networks as proven in other episodes. Item. The metal head dogs are escaped AI taking out lifetimes of endless torture on the world they can now physically access. My thoery. The Dogs are actually human Cookies. Finally unleashed of thier personal hells to get back at the people who contained them in endless horrifying limbo. Basically implied. Teddy bears aren't the cookie vessels the metal head dogs are.

I think the characters killed were actually roaches who fled to the no human wasteland so then they could live in peace, but the robots were sent there to eliminate them, you may say that it would be to smart for a roach to reprogram a van to work but I believe that the person who hacked it was actually the person who designed the light that disrupted the MASS implant, more proof is the fact that they say roaches go into woods to hide, just like the woman in this episode did

Brooker should make an episode about the state of the comments here! It's not that difficult to understand what this episode is about. The back-story of the "dogs" doesn't matter - it is up to you, the viewer to decide what's gone before. What matters is that the characters are in the obviously horrible situation, now. The story is about bravery, self-sacrifice, and helping loved ones without regard for personal risk or the adverse situation that the characters have found themselves in. It's about human spirit and trying against all the odds. In this world the teddy bears are hugely important, because of the extreme difficulty required to obtain them, their potential to bring comfort to someone who is suffering and in need of anything, however small, that might provide some brief respite. It's a story about the strength that we humans are capable of somehow finding in the bleakest of times for those we love.

Jemima's Teddy Bear from White Bear is the same kind of toy that is shown in the package and the name of place where people got revenge over Jemima's mother's ruthless act is called White Bear, based of the Teddy Bear. Perhaps the Teddy Bears are important for the humane civilization metaphysically because it represents revenge over the dogs which overpowered humanity, and just when revenge was in their hands a dog had to attack them, leading to a black and white hope.

I thought the ending was pretty straightforward, once you see all of the dogs apparently mobilizing after she finally manages to kill the one following her. I say mobilizing because surely would have encountered other dogs if they were already wandering around. Perhaps she realized that by killing the one dog, others would be alerted and would come after her en masse. Far away from the base she left from, injured, with no car and no radio contact, the realization that an army of dogs now knew where she was effectively killed her spirit. She knew it would be virtually impossible to survive, so chose to end her life on her own terms rather than be killed like...well, a dog.

The director of Metalhead said it was more symbolic, originally the teddy bear was suppose to be a pile of toys but because they wanted to maintain simplicity so they changed it to just teddy bears! So the two episodes containing stuffed animals is purely a coincidence!

Lame-ass episode. By far the worst of the season so far, if not the series! Shallow plot. Risking three lives for a teddy bear for a dying kid in a world full of doggy-terminators with a sadistic vibe. To do that during a post-apocalyptic scenario, that's not being an optimist, it's called being a selfish moron with a death wish. Sloppy ending too. Would be better if the box had something useful and she returned to find everyone dead, and then threw in the towel.

I think i didn't like this as much because there wasn't much going for it in terms of technology or the dangers of it. The metal heads could have been replaced by zombies or something. It didn't matter what those metal heads were. It showed that humans can outsmart the things but they will outnumber us. It could've been more exciting if it showed the robots manipulating humans. Like the battery scene, what if the battery percentage was just a ruse and as soon as the girl got down the robot came alive and killed her? The story doesn't have much depth either and we don't really care for any of the characters. What we feel at the end when we see the teddy bears is just shock and disbelief that someone would risk their life and abandon their kids just for a teddy bear. Season 4 was one of the weaker seasons imo when half the episodes were based on some small device you put on your head. Crocodile gave us one of the worst protagonist and the parental guidance one unwatchable. Metal had was ok. Black museum was pretty good. Hang the dj and callister are the only ones that were truly memorable

I can see a proper use for machines like this, but would require restrictions and would need a closed loop network or programming that would be protected from hackers. Would be good for security purposes and scouting and to relay information to law enforcement and only use deadly force to preserve itself or protect a VIP in a defensive manner. Problem is you would have to enable the robot to make decisions, have problem solving abilities, and learn. Nobody knows how a robot will interpret information or has the ability to distinguish between good and evil.

Vor year

A closed shell system would be ideal to keep hackers out but it'll completely isolate every dog. If they sent all the information through an encrypted/firewalled virtual private network would probably be as safe as you can get while still being connected. But no matter what you do on the software side what's stopping someone from taking a broken one and reverse engineering it.

To me, those questions that you brought up that people are continuously asking absolutely matter. The whole point and fun of Black Mirror to most people isn't the destination so much as the journey. How and why did the characters and humanity get to this point. This is by far the most ambiguous episode in the entire series and fails to capture what truly makes Black Mirror episodes great. That's just my opinion, I'm sure some people enjoyed it, but I get the sense that most did not and feel the reasoning why they didn't is 100% justified. BryceMakesFilms all you did was just summarize. Where did the robots come from, for instance? If you don't know, don't make a video.

Good video but I think you’re totally in the wrong to say it’s hopeful. I can understand your point but I feel you oly got half the way there. Yeah all of the stuff (Bella, bears, kids happiness in last moments) is taken away at the end to say “the thing you created gives no fucks about your hope or emotion”... at least imo

Exactly. Where was your humanity and sanctity of life when the bots were created unchecked. I see it like the mass shootings. At some point humans lost control of the situation and are now hunted, unable to do much but run and improvise.

What a great counter argument! It was bleak and hopeless when you think of the aftermath of this episode and the fact that they failed haha

BryceMakesFilms the ending was deep, Humans will risk their lives for a teddy bear for another human to be happy. Robots don't have any empathy, they just kill without any emotion. So it's saying ai is bad ultimately.

I like Metalhead as it is and enjoyed it quite a lot. Truly great to look at and will put you in a ride. Though as part of Black Mirror, it was disappointing. For me, what made the series so great is how it shows that technology is never the villain. The society's subscription to imagined technologies and the character's abuse of it or his/her faulty actions brought about by the system caused by said society's subscription is what causes the character's downfall. In a stretch, this still can be said from Metalhead but we are simply just not given enough exposition to say so. Instead the focus of all antagony is the metal dog, the technology.

Interesting point, I agree that this felt disconnecting in terms of what we've seen before in Black Mirror but I'm glad they are willing to change it up! Even if it's not as good!

I agree with your review over metalhead, it left us with a lot of unanswered question, but one question I can answer is the reason why they were looking for them teddy bears. If you seen esp 6 Black Museum the couple use the teddy bear  to transfer his wife consciousness in to it. Like you said to make the person life easier not from happiness but pain

I was thinking that was the case after watching black museum but then the director made a statement that the teddy bears were initially suppose to be toys but they needed to go with something soft and more warming!

I think you missed the fact that the teddy bears were clearly full of coke. Why else would they be guarded by such a vicious creature? And you can even see her drug problem when she has a second look in the drawer in the house and takes the bottles of pills out and put them into her pocket in that one scene.
