Is it ok to remove the battery directly without removing the screen?

Critical point missed in these steps: when placing the new battery in the phone, BEFORE you apply the adhesive strips, test the placement of the battery such that the ribbon connector will align perfectly with the jack on the phone. There is VERY little room for error here. If you stick the battery down and it is a little too low or too high, the connector will not align and you will need remove the battery (hopefully without damaging it) and position it correctly. So do a "dry" fit and see how much room there is between the battery and the top and bottom of the bay it sits in. Then after getting the adhesive strips in place, make sure you put the battery in exactly the same position.

Pry of shame. Completely destroys the look of battery. I've removed 100s of iphone 7 and 6 batteries and it can be different each time. If you pull too hard and lose the adhesive strip under the battery you can say bye bye to the aesthetics

This is ridiculous! You shouldn't have to work this hard just to get the battery out. The worst overpriced and badly designed phones on the market. I have a I phone 6s that is only 5 months old and it is completely dead and I can't even reset it. Now I have to take it to a tech. What a joke!

Just done this myself have never repaired a phone in over 10 years last phone I repaired as the very easy impossible to mess up sony walkman phones! You don't need to disconnect the screen or remove the screen plate! Mine were stuck down with sticky pads and I did not want to risk the screen. Just use a bottle or a wall to support the screen you do not need to disconnect it. I struggled getting the screen off from the adhesive so I used a very thin piece of metal/clip from a cheap plastic photo frame. I also broke the pull tabs so just pulled the battery out with pliers completely destroying the old battery but I would not recommend doing that as it is a fire hazard lol

Very helpful. I'm not much of a mechanic or handyman. This video was EXTREMELY helpful. The only issue I had was the pull tabs broke at the very beginning, so getting the battery unstuck was a task.

Who plugs in the battery before connecting the screen connectors? That's a BAD HABIT to have.

I messed up the "pull tab" method and completely destroyed my battery when pulling the adhesive off. probs to apple for making a strong adhesive.

Do NOT, pry the battery out like he did.. be much more gentle.... try to get it to the point where it will pop off. Doing it like he did could result in the battery actually puffing up from a chemical reaction, catching on fire and smoking out your entire house with a horrible gas. I’ve had it happen before.

Omg this “repair gide” is awful. Prying battery out like a primate. This could couse fire. I work at Apple service provider and seeing this kind of “repair” is just awful.

You made a catastrophic error by disconnecting the battery last and then reconnecting first. This method has a high potential of blowing up the components 👎

Apparently apple will not fix or assist with your apple iPhone if those white strips are no longer in the phone

NOTE: PLEASE READ! DO NOT CONNECT THE BATTERY CABLE FIRST THEN THE LCD CABLE! THIS WILL SHORT CIRCUIT IT! You don't need to disconnect the LCD cable when going through these steps however, just keep the screen 90 degrees open instead of disconnecting the cable and taking the screen off, i used a rest to stop the screen from falling so i didn't have to hold the screen while i do the rest of steps. ps. i was so scared when replacing the battery, even if i followed the steps correctly i still thought i fucked up somehow

As in removing nearly any cabling in any electronic devices, disconnect the battery BEFORE disconnecting other cables. Reverse the sequence when reconnecting (i.e. connect battery cable AFTER all other cables have been connected). Some advise holding the power button down for a few seconds after disconnecting the battery and before disconnecting other cable - presumably to discharge stored voltage in caps. Not sure if this actually does discharge any stored voltages but it certainly doesn't hurt to do it.

In would not even remove the screen, just hold it 90 degrees.

Thats not the good way... Those tape sticks should be pulled back until they are completely away from the battery. Don't move those strips because they break. You are literally damaging the battery and you should NEVER do it like this al that bending and pushing.

This is the right way to remove the adhesive strips, thanks to this the old battery is intact.

Annoyed how a phone seems to go downhill adter its paid off. Wasnt sure if this would be an easy thing to do. I have replaced the battery on my 80gb ipod a few times and repaired the click wheel but that was much older tech and seemingly easier. The ribbon cables on this look much eaiser to deal with. Im definitely going to do this over buying a new phone for a while.

Worked great!. I broke one of the tabs even pulling it straight down but managed to get a hold of it again with some tweezers.

Thanks for the upload! I was able to replace the battery without any complications, following the instructions in this video. Everything works perfect, and seamlessly. A lot of people are saying that their battery started to smoke or 'explode' during the replacement process. This happens if you puncture the battery while trying to remove the adhesive, so try your very best not to puncture the battery while removing the adhesive. I cant speak to the replacement battery that is linked in the description, but I bought my replacement battery from DAXTROMN on Amazon and it worked just fine. The same tools are included with the battery with the exception of the metal separator tool. A tip I used from another post in the comments was to make sure to reconnect the screen BEFORE connecting the battery, very important advice so that you don't short circuit your device.

DON'T TRY THIS AT HOME! I thought I would save money by buying a $12 kit instead of having my local mall repair shop (no authorized Apple iPhone service centers within two hours). Followed the instructions EXACTLY and ended up with a dead phone, putting me out of business immediately. Big mistake . . .

Oh, yeah! Don’t puncture the battery!!! Sparks, Smoke shot out all over me and the table. No more phone! Not sure how the table or carpet didn’t lite on fire. That was my result.....😳😢

I appreciate the video. Followed the steps exactly last night, powered it back on and all seemed good. Today, I realized all WAS good...except the camera doesn't work (front facing does work though). So, I tried (many times) reconnecting those ribbon plugs, but nothing has changed. Any thoughts on what the cause might be would be much appreciated. Thanks!

I ended up taking it to a repair shop. Camera issue aside, they said the dim screen was an issue with the LED backlight (I may be remembering that incorrectly). I described to them how I did the replacement and they felt that because I didn't use any kind of anti-static device or technique, I probably shorted those circuits out (the front facing camera and the backlight for the screen. I had to buy a new phone. :(

If there is no debris of any kind on the ribbon cable plug or socket pins, you probably cracked one of the traces in the ribbon cable if it got bent too much during the handling.

To any beginners don't make the mistake of connecting the battery before connecting anything else!! Be sure to plug in back the display or anything else before connecting the battery or you will short something out or blow out the backlight on the display! It's something pretty simple but a lot of people will slip up on this make sure all the connections are secure and connected before you connect that battery.

Hi, I have a question. So after I replaced the battery I messed up putting the new adhesive strips on for the bottom of the battery, so instead I decided to put two tapes and let the battery “stick” to the tape and the surface of the phone. Is this a problem or will the battery fall off? Or is this fine?

I changed the battery seemed to go fine except the connector for the battery seemed to be slightly lop sided ie the left side was slightly raised more than the right side. Turned on the phone seems to be working fine but the back feels fairly hot. Not sure if it’s just because I’m used to having a case on it and it’s normal???? Bit scared it might blow up???

It seems the pry of shame is unavoidable. That pull tab broke for me.

The term "Jerry Rig" is not correct. The correct term is "Jury Rig". Jerry Built is another correct term. Jerry Rig is smashing these two terms together. Jerry also uses the term "whole half" in this video. Oxymoron. Try using "entire half" next time.

My phone dies really quickly. Is there any way to buy a new stronger battery and have a phone shop do this for me? Also how much would this cost me?

Go to an apple store they are on discount at £25 (or a bit less value in dollars) until December 2018. They discounted them as people were having issues with phones slowing down after an ios update and it was due to worn batteries so they had to reduce the price.

DO NOT pull white stripes how he explained in the video. They both broke for me and I'm having a hard time now getting the battery out.

Remember that the screws are different lengths and positions so keep track of which screw goes where!

Replaced my battery! Took me over 2 hours because of the first 4 screws inside the phone were stripped and I had to fight to get them out. My girlfriend did most of it, she killed it!
