Building this fully electric wheelchair was super fun, and surprisingly simple. A few bars of metal tied into the already naturally existing supports and holes on the bike makes for a great seat supports. This Off Road wheel chair has a top speed of 20mph and a range of about 20 miles. The bikes I used cost about $1400 each, So after factoring in the $50 dollars worth of metal and random odds and ends, the whole thing cost about $3000 dollars to build. Which is less than half the price and twice the performance of other off road wheelchairs on the market right now.

I think you should flip the brake lever so it would be below the handle bar thus makin it easier to grip with all 4 wingers

5:13 if you drive alongside on slope and wheels turn together you should consider that one of the bikes can be higher than the other so you should think about how both bike can turn together if they are not on the same level, so you don't break the stearing mechanism if the slope is too big. And also on a very big slopes the seat won't be horisontally and it will be unconfortable. And add seat belt for the seat and shock absorbers too. Really cool build man.

Searching the internet for diy ideas, needing some self assist ideas to my husbands manual wheelchair, and came across this. We are traveling to Europe next year, for a spinal cord procedure and was hoping to make him something that would help a little, so he's not 100% reliant on the manual chair. Too hard to take a full electric chair (which he only uses for yard work anyway), but not sure what environment we will be encountering while we are there. Thanks for the ideas! This isn't exactly what we need, but it gives me some great ideas! I'm grateful for people like you that care about people like her, that sometimes just need a little helping hand.

The steel tube for the seat is way to heavy duty and hence unnecessarily heavy, you could try aluminum tube or cromoly and save bu cu weight. Would be good to use motors separate from the wheels, then reuse the gearing which would help with low range for off roading.

Vor 28 Tage

You know you can get a chain tool to take apart the chain. There's no need at all to angle grind and ruin a good new chain.

If you made the chair mount to the seat post and bottom bracket, these could be a universal fit kit for any pair of electric bikes with hub motors. Just pop out the seats and pedals, insert the chair to seat tubes, link the bottom brackets with a cross-bolt, convert the bars, link the forks, and you're done.

That seat is rigid enough to carry an Elephant :-) Maybe a little heavy and inflexible. But that is how engineering works. Have an idea. Give it a tray. On the way already see how to improve things. Get a first sample. Test. Review. Get user feedback - always the most exciting part. Gather improvement ideas. Plan and construct. Next iteration. For a real world product like a bike: maybe 50-100 cycles of this procedure have been done in the past.

watching this for the third time and i just had a idea. To make the bike/s easy to transport could the bar going through the two frames (where the bottom brackets usually are) be held in with split pins and a washer? Also, for the seat, could it be made on a metal frame that simply slots in the two seat pole/seat stay holes? That way it could easily all come apart... just a thought :D I am so going to try and build one of these in a few months :D

Setup tips for the current bike: Try making a type of CushCore by gluing pool noodles to the inside of the rims. This will allow you to run lower tire pressure for more ride comfort (also add tubeless sealant to make it puncture resistant). If the front shocks are coil sprung shocks, see if you can replace the spring on the inside with a softer coil, if it is air sprung, reduce the air pressure. This will allow more dampening when riding up curbs. If possible, increase rebound on the front shocks (so it takes longer to extend after an impact) to prevent the lift of the front tires when riding up a curb. For the full suspension bike: Try to move the seat a bit forward (and up to clear the tires, you can look at using the seat tube for extra support). Even though this will increase the center of gravity, it will allow the weight distribution to be more neutral. This will help with the performance of the suspension, as it was designed to be relatively neutral. If possible, look for air sprung shocks and forks, as this will allow for more fine tuning and can even be set up by a suspension tuner at a later stage. For the seat, you can perhaps look at what GMBN did for Martyn Ashton, it will allow Cambry to be strapped into the seat, which might make it feel safer if she sits higher on the bike. But, all in all, brilliant proof of concept.

Center of gravity too far rearward causing front suspension to not take up equal weight distribution. When Putting two sets of front suspension you didn't half the dampening rate to compensate for the total load on auspension not increasing. Adjustable dampeners will help you along with making an adjustable chair. A car seat would work.

First off I wanted to say that I found her story and what you did for her super inspiring. I had a couple questions. 1, kind of a two part question, is there a way to link the Motors together so that they run off one throttle? The reason I ask is I was wondering if you were using one throttle, does it pull to one side like want to go in circles or no problem at all and perfectly fine with being independent? Thank you and great job
